Now that the Christmas season is upon us, many will be greeting friends and family on Christmas Eve with “Buona Vigile!” and on Christmas Day with “Buon Natale!” Why is the letter ‘a’ retained for Christmas Eve, but dropped for Christmas Day?

I know that it has to do with agreement between masculine and feminine, but this one seems to be unique.

      Thanks!

It looks like my first comment was removed. It was about the difference between Buon Natale and Buona Vigilia. Why the letter ‘a’ is used on one but not the other.
