Why Learn Italian Through Stories?

When it comes to learning languages, textbooks and grammar exercises certainly have their place. But there’s something special about learning through stories. When you’re immersed in a good book, your mind naturally absorbs vocabulary and grammar patterns. Before you know it, you’ll remember new terms and phrase structures just by reading them in a story you can’t put down.

The grammar and vocabulary used in this book are suitable for all intermediate Italian language learners (A2, B1, B2 CEFR levels).

This book had a very good story in Italian with certain words and phrases defined at the end of the chapter. I enjoyed the story and learned quite a few new words and phrases.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I have been studying Italian for several years and would consider myself at an intermediate level. This book is B-1 and was a perfect level for me. I read through the chapters, at a quite comfortable pace. I liked that each chapter ends with a vocabulary list with definitions, as welll as a summary section and an added insights section (for further learning). Despite being comfortable reading the book, I learned new vocabulary and Italian expressions. I hope to see more B-1 books by Serena Capilli on Amazon in the future.

This intriguing story, written for adults, makes you feel like you have been transported to the beautiful city of Firenze (Florence, in English). Along with the interesting story and characters, there are cultural references, which help ground language comprehension. Each chapter ends with a vocab list, chapter summary, and “approfondimenti,” where Serena explains expressions and grammar in more detail. I highly recommend reading this book!

I enjoyed reading this book and found the story engaging and il vocabolario and approfondimenti sections very helpful and pertinent to everyday speaking. I have found it difficult to find adult intermediate level books for Italian learners and definitely recommend Gioielli, Caffè e Firenze. I will look for more books by this author.

Serena takes effective language learning to the next level is her newest book. The complexity of the language and cultural clues challenge the reader while the story itself is interesting and provides motivation to continue. Each chapter built upon the previous one to take me on a learning adventure. Until now, I have never been able to find an author that could write a good story that holds my attention while I almost effortlessly learn Italian. It is very rare to find books at this level written with such skill. Serena’s creativity proves that learning in a natural context, rather than with books of drills, is more effective and more fun.
