Reading Materials for B2 Italian Learners
Reading is the single most efficient way to expand your vocabulary at the B2 level and beyond. But — and this is important — not all reading is equally useful. Passive reading of texts that are too easy will not move the needle.

Speaking: Private Conversation Practice
Speaking is a skill you cannot outsource to a textbook. And at the B2 level, casual chit-chat with a language exchange partner is no longer enough. You need someone who can hear your patterns, identify your fossilized errors, and push you to reach for more sophisticated vocabulary in real time.

Serena’s Tip
When you book an Italian online class, don’t just ask to “practice conversation.” Ask your tutor for a refining session, which is a focused exercise where they take your sentences and replace your basic vocabulary with more sophisticated B2- and C1-level synonyms.
You can also ask them to assign you a reading or listening task to study beforehand and then discuss during the lesson.
Guided conversation is one of the fastest ways to upgrade your active vocabulary, and it’s something you can only do with a real, experienced human in the room.
Final Thoughts
The B2 level is not a ceiling — it is a corridor. The learners who break through to C1 are not necessarily the most talented or the most studious. They are the ones who focused not only on conversation skills but also on stretching their listening, grammar and vocabulary to near-native level.
Pick one or two Italian resources from each section above and commit to them for three months. A grammar book, a graded reader, Piazzetta Italiana, and one speaking session per week based on what you’ve studied in the books. That is all it takes to start feeling the shift.
