Capilli has written a story with a simple plot, however, it is more than enough to keep the readers interest alive.
The story, with its exercises, is a very useful learning tool for the upper beginner and a solid consolidation for intermediate students.
Well done Serena!
I bought 4 of Serena Capilli’s books to complement my learning Italian on Babbel. I have enjoyed all of them. They are the perfect level for me - an upper beginner/ intermediate - with really clear explanations and exercises to do if you want to. I loved the descriptions. Books I have bought in the past have been too difficult but with these books you don’t have to look up every other word. I highly recommend them.
If you are learning any language it's difficult to find comprehensive input at the right level but, I can honestly say that Mediterraneo by Serena Capilli is perfect for me. I see myself as an intermediate learner of Italian and what I absolutely love about this little story is that it's challenging me just enough. Not only that, Serena adds interest to the story by describing the area of Bari, where the book is based. I'm also finding the exercises very useful. Will I buy more books by this author? Assolutamente si. Quindi perché non comprare uno dei libri di Serena da soli?
I have read all of Serena's books and this one did not disappoint! She is clearly passionate about teaching Italian in a way that is palatable. Her stories have short chapters which is a big plus, and the highlighted words are defined at the end of each chapter. I have gone back and retaken the end of chapter quizzes as well as redoing the translation exercises which are most helpful! Doing translation, in my opinion, is the best way to test and retest yourself if you want to improve quickly. Can't wait to see what she does next!!
This is a useful intermediate-low level reader. I like how it provides a list of formulaic expressions. I learned some useful phrases that Duolingo doesn’t teach.
The book is easy to read for intermediate learner of Italian language
We have a little group of us that get together on zoom almost every week with vacation breaks in between, for the last 4 1/2 years! Part of our learning is reading. We've read Serena's 3 book series and loved it. Serena knows how to write interesting romanzi gialli. Surprisingly, we can read most with learning and remembering new words in phrases. Her teaching methodology is reinforced by the esercizi. We review 3 chapters per week. Mediterraneo is another great story written in A2/B1 level. Soon we will be on her latest book, published just in time for us to order. It's been a delight to study and improve our italiano with Serena's books
As an Italian language learner I've
e been pushing myself to read more. This book was great for an intermediate level learner such as myself. The story was engaging, and there were some comprehension questions and vocabulary to help you along. I was pleasantly surprised and recommend this book, and anything by the author.
Serena's book is a great resource for A2 and lower B1 students. You'll get to practice your passato prossimo, imperfetto, and imperativo tenses while learning some new words and more importantly "chunks" as she calls them (phrases and standard expressions in spoken Italian). I really enjoyed the accompanying audio and the quizzes, which help to improve your listening comprehension and build your vocabulary. It's also nice to read an Italian book without the passato remoto or subjunctive/congiuntivo tense getting in the way of the story and making you reach for a conjugation table constantly.
Make sure to follow her advice get the most out of the book: Listen first to the audio as many times as you need to until you hit full comprehension, then read/listen simultaneously, then just read. Finally go through the quiz at the end of the chapter. Every time I started a new chapter, I would read from the beginning of the book to reinforce any words/chunks not committed to memory. Her method really works!!
